Somali pirates release journalists after more than a year

Two foreign journalists kidnapped in Somalia by militants more than a year ago have been freed.

Canadian, Amanda Lindhout and Australian Nigel Brennan were taken captive in August 2008.

Ms Lindhout told Canadian media that she was tortured and that a ransom had been paid for her and the other journalists’ release.

Somalia has been without an effective government since 1991, and journalists and aid workers are frequently abducted.
