Queen Elizabeth in Trinidad

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh are now in Trinidad and Tobago for the start of a three-day official visit.



The highlight of the visit will be the official opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting tomorrow.



The royal couple was met on arrival by President George Maxwell Richards and his wife, Dr Jean Ramjohn Richards, Prime Minister Patrick Manning and his wife and other officials.



The queen was given a 21-gun salute and inspected a contingent of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.



Following the ceremonial opening of the Commonwealth meeting tomorrow, the Queen is expected to meet with 15 heads of government, including Barbados Prime Minister David Thompson and the Trinidadian Prime Minister.



The royal couple leaves the twin island republic on Saturday.
