Guyana objects to trade barriers

Guyana has again objected to non-tariff barriers on some of its food exports by some CARICOM countries.

Agriculture Minister, Robert Persaud, raised the concern at a workshop in Georgetown on the formulation of a Regional Policy on Food and Nutrition Security.

While chiding technical experts for lack of action on food security issues, Mr Persaud also blamed CARICOM countries for not buying regional products.

He says this is contributing to the region\'s high food import bill.
