Prime Minister Stephenson King has sought to allay fears of St. Lucians, following the recent warning by Tourism Minister, Allen Chastanet, that the current standard of living is unsustainable.
Last week Mr. Chastanet said that St Lucia was now barely raising enough money for recurrent expenditure.
He warned that if the situation continues, the administration may soon be forced to borrow money to pay salaries.
However, Prime Minister King said Mr. Chastanet’s comments were not an indication that the country is in any trouble.
Mr. King, who is St. Lucia’s Finance Minister, is also upset about the statement made by the Tourism Minister.
He said statements on matters of the economy ought to come from him instead of any other minister.
