Guyana has announced plans to enforce the terms of scholarships, which preclude female recipients from enjoying the benefits.
Guyanese authorities said those who become pregnant can expect to have their scholarships withdrawn.
The scholarships are provided by Cuba to the government of Guyana.
One of the terms of the scholarship stipulates that pregnancy is a ground for discontinuation.
The Cuban authorities have reportedly said that they are offering the scholarships as an opportunity for education, not for pregnancy and child rearing.
