US prosecutors in Florida say they will be seeking the death penalty for a Haitian man accused of murdering his wife and five children in September.

A spokeswoman for the state attorney said paperwork was filed yesterday declaring the prosecutors intentions in the case against 33-year-old Mesac Damas.

Mr Damas is charged with killing his 32-year-old wife and their children whose ages ranged from 19 months to nine years old.

He has pleaded not guilty, however when he was arrested in Haiti, Damas had admitted to the killings.
