Sugar probe demanded in Guyana

The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union are calling for an inquiry into the country’s sugar industry.

The call comes after the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) said it had run out of money temporarily because of the delayed arrival of a ship to collect sugar.

The development also resulted in the country\'s sugar workers not being paid on time.

They were expected to receive their wages on Monday.

The President of the union, Komal Chand said he is concerned that the sugar industry may be on the brink of collapse.

It is for that reason that he wants an official probe into GUYSUCO’s operations.
