Nevis Gov’t and Cable Company battle in court

The Nevis government and the island\'s sole cable television company are in court after the Government seized control of the company this week.

After a hearing in a Nevis court yesterday, it was agreed that a joint government and company management team would oversee the affairs of the entity until tomorrow when the case continues.

On Monday the Nevis Island Assembly passed a bill giving the government the powers to nationalize the company.

The cable company, Caribbean Cable, took out an injunction and is now seeking to quash the take-over.

The government’s decision to nationalize the cable company was hinted in an agreement dating back to 2003, which made provisions for such a move.
