Chanderpaul doubtful for final Test
West Indies veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is doubtful for the third and final Test against hosts Australia that starts tomorrow night Caribbean time at the WACA Ground in Perth.
The Caribbean side must win the contest to secure a surprise drawn series.
West Indies team manager Joel Garner confirmed that Chanderpaul had injured his finger against the wicket while fielding.
Meanwhile, Australia have drafted in an extra bowler in their squad.
With paceman Peter Siddle recently hindered by a hamstring strain, Tasmania’s uncapped Brett Geeves was summoned to the squad.
By drafting in Geeves, Australia are looking to revert to an all-pace attack, as they did during the summer against England.
That would mean omitting off-spinner Nathan Hauritz, who took five wickets in the comprehensive opening win in Brisbane.
Meanwhile, explosive West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith has signed with New South Wales to play in the 20/Twenty Big Bash competition.
The 26-year-old has played 10 Test matches for the Windies and scored a century on debut against South Africa in 2004.
However it is in limited-overs cricket where he has excelled representing West Indies in 71 One-Day Internationals and five 20/Twenty matches.
