Coral reefs warning

A United Nations environmental economist is warning that more that 250 million people risk losing their livelihoods because of dying tropical coral reefs.

The UN\'s Pavan Sukhdev said the emergency around coral reefs must be addressed because, if not checked, millions of people could be affected because of the lack of fish on tropical coral reefs.

Scientists have already warned that warming seas are causing coral reefs to bleach and some are dying, destroying fisheries.

They\'ve explained that its happening because oceans are absorbing growing amounts of CO 2 and becoming increasingly acidic.

Britain\'s Secretary of State for the environment Hilary Benn said more than just livelihoods are at stake because many people depend on fish as a source of protein.
