Dominica\'s election squabbles continue

Published:Tuesday | December 22, 2009 | 6:11 PM

A former senior government minister in Dominica is rejecting calls by the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) for fresh general elections following Friday’s polls.

The ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) won 18 of the 21 seats at stake.

UWP leader, Ron Green, is claiming that the December 18 votes were of a fraudulent nature.

Green who is one of the casualties of the poll, charges that there have been gross and unprecedented irregularities, fraud and breaches of the laws of Dominica.

But former energy minister, Charles Savarin, says the statement by the UWP leader that the party will also be boycotting the new parliament is laughable, given the fact that election was monitored by the Organization of American States and CARICOM.
