ICC seeks Indian board’s reply on pitch fiasco
The International Cricket Council (ICC), has asked the Indian cricket board for an explanation over the dangerous pitch that led to the abandonment of the fifth and final limited-overs international between India and Sri Lanka yesterday.
ICC Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat said the Board of Control for Cricket in India had been given 14 days to respond to match referee Alan Hurst\'s report.
The match between India and Sri Lanka was called off after protests from the touring team\'s captain Kumar Sangakkara.
Alarmingly rising deliveries caused problems to the batsmen from the start of the match and one delivery from paceman, Ashish Nehra struck Sri Lankan opener, Tillakaratne Dilshan on his elbow. The batsman was given treatment on the field before play resumed.
What proved to be the last straw was the third delivery of the 24th over, from India\'s rookie paceman, Sudeep Tyagi that rose dangerously and flew past the face of batsman, Thilina Kandamby.
Sangakkara complained to Hurst, as well as on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Shavir Tarapore, and the players left the field with Sri Lanka on 83 for 5.
India won the series 3-1.
