The Cuban Government is stepping up preventive measures amid reports that a second wave of the H1N1 virus has killed 41 people and infected about 1,000.

Public Health Vice Minister, Luis Estruch said there could be even more than the 1,000 people already detected with the virus.

However, he said no country could afford to test all people suspicious of the virus since the analysis of every sample costs about US$100.

He said if the virus is treated in time people could survive.

As part of the Cuban strategy to face the flu, officials have been asked to intensify ports and airport searches.
