Fire officials in St. Lucia say they are investigating the possibility that a lit candle may have caused the blaze that resulted in the death of a woman and severe burns to her son over the weekend.
Divisional Fire Officer, Charles Lambert, says Mary Griffith, whose age was not given, was burnt to death in the blaze that also injured her son, Tony.
He says the police are now working on the theory that the blaze may have been caused after the lit candle used by her son, fell, destroying the three-bedroom house at Arundell Hill on the outskirts of the capital.
