The son of a former Dominican Prime Minister has been convicted after he pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and three rounds of ammunition in an Antigua Court.

Joel Seraphine was also fined 40,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars.

The court ordered that Seraphine be sent to prison for two years on each count.

Seraphine was arrested and charged on December 14, after he was found with the illegal weapon and ammunition.

His attorney, Ralph Francis, said his client, who was previously deported from Antigua came back to the country to collect monies owed to him.

The court ordered that Seraphine be deported once he pays the fine or completes the prison term.

His father, Oliver Seraphine served as Dominica’s Prime Minister from 1979-1980 following the collapse of the Patrick John regime.
