Officials in Georgetown, Guyana say they’re working to resolve the country’s prolonged disruption to its domestic and international telecommunications services, including the internet.
The country has had to contend with a regular breakdown in the sub-marine fibre-optic cable in neighbouring Suriname and French Guiana, resulting in the lengthy disruption of telecommunication services.
Now both Suriname and French Guiana are preparing to land a US$60 million sub-marine cable on their shores, bypassing the existing system.
Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Joseph Singh, says engineers will land the new sub-marine fibre cable on Georgetown\'s Atlantic coast next Monday.
