Discarded West Indies batsman, Dwayne Smith and his New South Wales opened their campaign in the Australia’s 20/20 Big Bash tournament with a 31-run triumph over Tasmania yesterday.
Electing to bat at the Bellerive Oval, New South Wales posted 194 for 4 off their allotted overs, and Tasmania replied with 163 in 19 overs.
Phillip Hughes 71 not out and David Warner 67 compiled a rapid 97 runs inside the first 7 overs to set up the win for New South Wales.
Smith fell cheaply for 3, but picked up 1 for 20 off 3 overs.
There are no games today and the series resumes tomorrow with Tasmania facing the Western Australia Warriors, minus hard-hitting West Indies batsman Chris Gayle.
