More honours for Quow, Lucas
IAAF Word Championship medalists, Renny Quow and Josanne Lucas picked up their second national honours inside a week when the National Association of Athletic Administration named them Trinidad and Tobago’s Athletes of the Year at the weekend.
Quow, a 400 metres bronze medallist at the Berlin World Championship last August, copped the 2009 Male Athlete of the Year honour and Lucas, who won the 400 metres hurdles bronze in Berlin, was named Female Athlete of the Year.
The athletes had earlier in the week won the T&T Olympic Committee Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards.
The 22-year-old Quow posted a personal best 44.53 seconds in the semifinals round of the World Championships in Berlin, making him the second fastest man in 2009 over the distance. He placed third in the final in 45.02 seconds.
The medal earned by Quow established him as the first T&T quarter-miler in the 26-year history of the World Championships to secure a podium finish.
