The West Indies Under-19 cricketers yesterday received a major pep talk from New Zealand Captain, Daniel Vettori ahead of the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup.

The Caribbean side arrived in New Zealand yesterday and later in the evening visited the North Districts ground where they witnessed a 20/20 match between Otago and Northern Districts.

Team Manager, Omar Khan said Vettori addressed the players after the match and encouraged them to embrace the opportunity to participate in a world level event.

Khan said after a tiring flight from London, the players were taken to the Northern Districts ground for a run to get rid of the jet lag before going to their rooms to relax.

The West Indies Under-19 will play a warm-up game against the Northern Districts ‘A’ team tomorrow evening, Caribbean time.

West Indies will also play official warm-up matches against Australia on January 11 and Ireland on January 12.

They face Pakistan in the tournament opener in Palmerston North on January 15.
