England move toward South Africa first innings total

Alistair Cook and Matt Prior hit half-centuries as England inched towards South Africa\'s first-innings total of 291 in the third test at Newlands today.



The tourists, who are protecting a 1-nil lead in the four-match series, reached stumps on day two on 241 for 7, with Prior unbeaten on 52.



Cook 65 and Ian Bell 48, century-makers in England\'s win in Durban in the second test, had underpinned a mini-recovery after the team had slipped to 73 for four.



Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn have so far taken two wickets each for South Africa.



Earlier, South Africa added just 12 runs to their overnight total of 279 for 6.



Jacques Kallis was caught behind off the second ball of the day without adding to his overnight tally of 108.



James Anderson was the most successful bowler for England with five for 63, while Graham Onions and Graeme Swann picked up two wickets apiece.
