Union threatens to shut down Grenada

A trade union in Grenada has warned that it is prepared to cause widespread disruption across the country, unless the eight workers who were dismissed by Grenada Distillers on Monday are reinstated.

The Technical and Allied Workers Union has criticized the company’s decision.

The Union’s President, Chester Humphrey claims that the workers were dismissed for refusing to sign employment contracts.

Mr. Humphrey says workers who had signed the document did so out of fear for losing their jobs.

He is demanding that the contracts be nullified.

The union is in discussions with the company to re-negotiate a new contract on behalf of 50 employees.
