Mediation talks on in Grenada

Mediation talks are scheduled to begin in Grenada today in a bid to end the country\'s first industrial dispute since the start of the year.

Workers at the Grenada Distillers Limited, one of the island\'s leading rum exporters, took industrial action yesterday after nine employees were dismissed for refusing to sign a personal contract with the company.

The Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) contends that the workers were asked to sign the document without the union\'s knowledge and approval.

Union boss, Chester Humphrey said the company acted in a highhanded and unjust manner.

He has warned that the union is prepared to cause widespread disruption across the country unless the eight workers who were dismissed are reinstated.
