Belizean Prime Minister, Dean Barrow said he has met with gang leaders in an attempt to address what\'s been described as a recent upsurge in violent crimes in the country.
Mr. Barrow said the talks yesterday were aimed at creating some kind of system that can provide for structural maintenance of the peace in Belize City.
The meeting was reportedly held at the request of rival gang leaders who had earlier agreed to a ceasefire which is said to have kept the streets of Belize City relatively crime free for the past week and a half.
Recent violent crime includes a grenade attack that killed a 14-year-old boy and injured two other individuals.
