A top United Nations representative to Haiti says the country\'s democratic and economic development rests on legislative and presidential elections planned for this year.
Haiti\'s legislative elections are scheduled for February 28.
Peacekeeping chief Hedi Anabi said while Haiti\'s security and economy improved in 2009, relative progress depends on successfully holding two elections in a country where casting ballots and the counting of votes have often led to bloodshed and turmoil.
The UN official said success will also help to promote stability and development.
