Lawyers representing the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) have now filed election petitions in the High Court challenging the outcome of the December 18 general elections.

The team of lawyers is being led by Trinidad-based Senior Counsel, Douglas Mendes.

The attorneys say they expect the matter to be heard by the end of this month.

The petitions have been filed against Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, several of his victorious Dominica Labour Party candidates, and the Attorney General.

The Electoral Commission, the State-owned Dominica Broadcasting Corporation as well as the Chief Elections Officer, Merina Williams have also been listed as defendants in the petitions.

In its petition, the UWP, which won only three of the 21 seats in the general elections last month, cited a number of factors, including irregularities, bribery and corruption.
