Several lawmakers in Haiti are demanding that Prime Minister, Jacques-Edouard Alexis resign to make way for a new government.
The call comes against the background of violent protests against high food prices in the country, during which 5 persons were reportedly killed.
Senator Andris Riche said some parliamentarians have already written to the Prime Minister, advising him to step down in the next 48 hours.
A desperate appeal from President Rene Preval has failed to restore order in the Haitian capital.
