Gambhir hits fifth century to help India toward winning position
Gautam Gambhir hit his fifth century in as many tests, to help India toward a winning position in the first test, as the visitors set Bangladesh an unlikely winning target on day four today.
Gambhir scored 116 as India, with a one-run lead on first innings, declared at 413 for 8 after resuming this morning on 122 for 1. They set Bangladesh a target of 415 for victory.
At stumps, the hosts were 67 for 2, needing 348 more runs for victory with Tamim Iqbal unbeaten on 23 and Mohammad Ashraful on 16 when bad light ended play prematurely.
Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma have taken the wickets to fall.
Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan, 2 for 112 and Mohammad Mahmudullah, 2 for 52, were the most successful bowlers for Bangladesh.
Scores in the game so far are India 243 and 413 for 8 declared, Bangladesh 242 and 67 for 2.
