Jamaican wins short sprint

Jamaican Lerone Clarke won the men’s 60-metre dash at the BW Bank indoor athletics meet in Germany yesterday.



Clarke clocked 6.64 seconds to beat Egwero Ogho-Oghene of Negeria in a photo finish.



Meanwhile, Vonette Dixon of Jamaica finished fourth in the women’s 60-metre hurdles in a time of 8.01.



Lolo Jones led an American sweep in the event.



Jones clocked a world-leading 7.90 seconds, with Yvette Lewis second in a personal best 7.99 and Kellie Wells third in 8.01.



Jamaicans Julian Reid, Keiron Stewart and Natasha Ruddock were victorious at the Texas A&M Challenge Indoor track and field meet.



Reid secured the triple jump title with a Texas A&M record of 16.45 metres that bettered the previous mark held by current teammate Zuheir Sharif, who finished second at 15.89 metres.



Ruddock missed her own school record by 0.01 when she posted 8.16 seconds to lead a Texas A&M sweep of the women’s 60-metre hurdles.



Stewart ensured a Jamaican double in the sprint hurdles, winning the men’s event in 7.95 for Texas.
