Antigua radio station automates operations

In Antigua, the Observer Group of Companies said it has terminated the services of seven employees at one of its radio stations because it is moving to fully automate its operations.
Group Chairman, Winston Derrick, said the workers at HITZ FM were informed of the decision to send them home last week.
HITZ FM caters mainly to younger listeners, playing a wide variety of popular songs with a heavy rotation of soca, reggae, hip hop and R&B tunes.
The Observer Group of Companies which marked its 16th anniversary last week also operates The Daily Observer newspaper and Observer Radio, a news-talk station.
