Reggae Boyz in Argentina for friendly
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have arrived in Argentina to tackle the South American powerhouse in a friendly football international on Wednesday night Jamaica time.
The match is scheduled to start at 8.30 p.m.
Ranked 78th in the world, the Jamaicans face a monumental battle against the two-time World Cup champions who are currently ranked eighth in the world.
The Jamaicans, who defeated Canada in a home friendly on January 31, will be missing most of their overseas-based professionalism but head coach Theodore Whitmore remains positive ahead of the midweek friendly.
Among those missing from the Jamaica side will be US-based captain, Tyrone Marshall, and Europe-based Demar Phillips and Luton Shelton, whose second-half strike spurred the Reggae Boyz past Canada 1-0 two Sundays ago.
Speedy forward Dane Richards has joined the squad, fresh from a pre-season stint in Spain with his US Major League Soccer club, New York Red Bulls.
Argentina will not field their strongest unit also.
Argentina whipped Jamaica 5-0 at the 1998 World Cup Finals in France the last time the two teams met.
