The Organisation of American States (OAS) is reporting that some schools have now been reopened in Haiti, almost a month after the January 12 earthquake that devastated the country.

In the meantime, OAS assistant secretary general Albert Ramdin says preliminary work is being done for a proper rebuilding of the country.

He says Haiti’s Prime Minister, Jean Max Bellerive, is engaged in the necessary consultation in respect of building codes as part of the long term response.

Mr Ramdin says there is also focus on short-term accommodation measures ahead of the expected rainy season in May.
