Automobile manufacturer, Honda has recalled over 400,000 additional cars mainly in North America, in a global safety recall of vehicles with defective airbags

Honda has already removed 515,000 of its Accord and Civic sedan vehicles after reports that the airbags in these cars did not inflate.

The problem first started in late 2008 when 4,000 cars were recalled and another 500,000 in mid last year.

The recent announcement also affects Japan, Mexico, Taiwan and Australia.

The fresh blow to Japanese carmakers came as Toyota recalled nearly half a million hybrid cars over faulty brakes.

Toyota has already had to bring millions of other vehicles back to dealerships following reports of gas pedal and floormat problems.
