India on top in second Test
Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar scored centuries to put hosts India on top before South Africa fought back with three late wickets on today’s second day of the second Test.
Sehwag, 165, and Tendulkar, 106, combined for a 249-run stand for the third wicket to put India in a good position.
However, South Africa removed the two in successive overs to have India at 342 for 5 in their first innings at stumps, bettering South Africa\'s first innings of 296.
Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Paul Harris and Jean-Paul Duminy ended with a wicket each.
Earlier, South Africa’s last pair of Wayne Parnell and Morkel put on 30 to carry the overnight score of 266 for nine to 296.
Zaheer Khan, four for 90, and Harbhajan Singh, three for 64, were the most successful bowlers for India.
South Africa lead the two-match series 1-0 and would depose India at the top of the rankings by avoiding defeat.
Scores in the match are South Africa 296, India 342 for five.
