Jamaicans off to Peru today

Jamaica’s senior badminton players are scheduled to depart the country this morning to participate in the regional qualifiers in Lima, Peru.



The men’s team will compete in the Thomas Cup while the women’s team will participate in the Uber Cup.



Both tournaments start on Thursday.



The men’s team includes Charles Pyne, Gareth Henry, Garron Palmer, Dennis Coke and Anthony McNee.



Meanwhile, Coke and McNee are already in Peru. Both players participated in the Pan Am segment of the Youth Olympic Games qualifying tournament.



McNee was beaten by second seed Brendan Lum of the USA 21-19, 21-16 in his first game. He was knocked out of the tournament after suffering defeat to Mexican Job Castillo 19-21, 21-13, 21-12.



Coke lost 21-17, 19-21, 21-18 to Canadian Nathan Leung and Jonathan Solis of Guatemala 21-6, 21-10.



The women’s team includes Nigella Saunders, Alya Lewis, Kristal Karjohn and Carla Grant.
