Guinean authorities have appointed a transitional government to steer the country from military to civilian rule.

The 34-member government was selected by interim Prime Minister Jean Marie Dore, who was appointed last month by the general in charge of Guinea.

The new caretaker government consists of civilian and military leaders.

Mr Dore has pledged to hold elections within six months to end a crisis sparked by a coup in December 2008.

That would lead to the first democratically-elected administration in Guinea, which has been controlled by the military for decades.
