Four Haitian children are now dead after a school collapsed under the weight of a mudslide in the northern city of Cap-Haitien.
Although Cap-Haitien was left largely unscathed by last month\'s devastating earthquake, several days of torrential rain triggered the mudslide.
The government began allowing schools outside of areas hard-hit by the earthquake to reopen at the start of February.
Meanwhile, Canada has promised to build a new headquarters for the Haitian government, whose offices were largely destroyed in the 7.0 magnitude quake.
Speaking on a visit to Port au Prince, the Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, said it would be an important step towards reconstruction, allowing centralised control of the huge aid effort.
