Miller replaces Bernard in Jamaica’s squad
Young batsman Horace Miller has been drafted into Jamaica’s squad for their must-win match against Trinidad and Tobago in the final round of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional first-class championship this weekend.
Miller is now travelling to Grenada for the four-day fixture as a replacement for the steady all-rounder David Bernard, who has been called up for West Indies duties this weekend against touring Zimbabwe.
Second-placed Jamaica, with 48 points, are nine points adrift of tournament leaders Barbados entering the seventh and last round.
The Barbadians completed their schedule with a 10-wicket whipping of Jamaica on Sunday in Trinidad to surge to 57 points.
Only an outright win over T&T for maximum 12 points can take reigning champions Jamaica past Barbados for the title.
Bernard’s absence is a blow to the Jamaica side as they take aim at their third consecutive regional first-class title. The useful middle-order batsman has 15 wickets at 20.93 runs apiece so far this season.
T&T, currently third in the standings with 33 points, have also been forced to make changes after losing Adrian Barath and Darren Bravo to West Indies duties. They have been replaced by William Perkins and Kervon Cooper for the match, starting Friday.
The remaining members of Jamaica’s squad are captain Tamar Lambert, Donovan Pagon, Brenton Parchment, John Ross Campbell, Danza Hyatt, Carlton Baugh Junior, Nkrumah Bonner, Andrew Richardson, Odean Brown, Andre Russell, Bevon Brown and Jason Dawes.
