A top Haitian official says the US Embassy in the country now has custody of six orphans who were seized by Haitian police as they were about to board a plane for the United States.
The handover follows a meeting yesterday between the US ambassador and Haiti\'s prime minister.
Social welfare agency chief Jeanne Bernard Pierre did not say when her office handed the children over to US officials.
The children whose ages range from 1 to 5, were seized by the police on Saturday from four women who were accompanying them out of Haiti.
Reports have suggested that the four had the correct legal paperwork, but there has been much public outcry accusing them of child trafficking.
