The United Nations’ International Narcotics Control Board is reporting that drug trafficking has become a major security threat in Central America and the Caribbean.

The watchdog group says drug trafficking is also contributing to increasing drug abuse and homicides linked to organized crime.

In a report, the agency said drug traffickers in Central America and the Caribbean are increasingly using light aircraft with stolen or falsified registration numbers to transport illegal substances.

The report also stated that drug trafficking by sea also remains a problem in the region.
