IOC to investigate Canadian behaviour
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will investigate the behavior of the Canadian women ice hockey players who celebrated their gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics by drinking beer and champagne on the ice yesterday.
Players came back onto the ice more than half an hour after the 2-0 victory over the United States. Still in their uniforms and with gold medals hanging from their necks, they drank champagne and beer and smoked cigars.
Gilbert Felli, the IOC\'s executive director of the Olympic Games, says he was unaware of the incidents until informed by an Associated Press reporter.
Felli says the IOC will talk to the international ice hockey federation and the Canadian Olympic Committee to get more information.
Finland beat Sweden 3-2 in overtime to take the bronze medal.
It was Canada’s eighth gold medal at the Olympics. They are third on the medal table with a medal-haul of 17.
The USA are leading with a medal haul of 32 including eight gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze. Germany are second with a medal-haul of 26 including eight gold, 11 silver and 7 bronze.
