Baker helps Leewards to victory
Discarded West Indies pacer Lionel Baker helped Leeward Islands finish the season with a flourish, when he bowled them to a 10-wicket victory over the Combined Campuses and Colleges in their day/night game.
Baker ended with five wickets for 52 runs, as Combined Campuses and Colleges, asked to follow on, were dismissed for 200 in their second innings.
They had resumed yesterday’s third day on 192 for six, just 30 runs ahead.
Set 39 for victory, Leewards reached their target without losing a wicket about 40 minutes before the lunch interval, when Kieran Powell pulled Kevin McClean for the last of his seven boundaries in 32 not out.
With the win, the Leewards finished the season in third place on 34 points, but Combined Campuses and Colleges, 24 points, will only know their final position when the fixture between Guyana and Windward Islands comes to a conclusion today.
Final scores in that match:-Leeward Islands 227 and 40 without loss; Combined Campuses and Colleges 65 and 200.
OVER AT THE NATIONAL CRICKET STADIUM, Windward Islands, replying to Guyana’s first innings total of 452, reached 371 for seven at the close of yesterday’s third day of their final round game.
