Some workers at two government revenue collection agencies in Trinidad and Tobago yesterday stayed off the job, calling the action a dry run for wider protest.
Members of the Public Service Association are objecting to a plan to merge the tax-taking operations of the Inland Revenue and Customs departments.
The union says the creation of the new entity will result in the loss of more than 2,000 jobs.
Last month, the House of Representatives gave its approval to establish the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority and now the government only needs the support of the Senate.
Meanwhile, newly appointed chairman of the authority, Andre Henry, has accused the Public Service Association of engaging in bullying tactics.
