Power failure affects Curacao refinery

Venezuela\'s state-owned petroleum company has been forced to stop operations at its Curacao refinery following a cut in power supply overnight.

The Isla refinery, which produces 320,000 barrels of oil per day, says the plant was shut down after the Curacao Utilities Operating Company cut power supplies to the aging complex.

A statement from the refinery says some of its units are restarting today and the situation will continue until the utilities company can be restored.

The petroleum company has faced a number of operational problems in Curacao.

Last year refinery units were closed for months due to power supply problems.
