Jamaica’s national cricketers arrived in the country earlier this afternoon with the George Headley/Everton Weekes Trophy for winning the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Four-Day Championship.

The Jamaicans secured the title for the third-consecutive year after defeating Trinidad and Tobago by an innings and 72 runs at Progress Park in Grenada inside on Sunday.

Jamaica entered the final round needing to secure an outright victory in order to surpass leaders Barbados, who had ended their schedule the previous week on 57 points.

Jamaica’s coach Junior Bennett says he took a gamble by playing five bowlers against T&T instead of going for an extra batsman.

By securing maximum 12 points with the victory, the Jamaicans climbed to the top of the standings on 60 points, relegating Barbados to second.

The Leewards finished the season in third place on 34 points, followed by T&T 33, Combined Campuses and Colleges 24 and Guyana and Windwards 22 each.
