Researchers say the massive earthquake that rocked the west coast of Chile last month was violent enough to move the city of Concepcion at least 10 feet to the west and the capital, Santiago, about 11 inches to the west-southwest.

Chile was hit by the 8.8 quake on February 27.

They also say the earthquake has shifted other parts of South America, as far apart as the Falkland Islands and Fortaleza, in Brazil.

The reseach was conducted by a team from the five univeristies as well as agencies across South America.

They say the results were reached after evaluating data through a global positioning satellite measurement of the landscape before and after the earthquake.

Meanwhile, scientists at NASA have said that the effects of the Chilean quake has shifted the Earth\'s axis, resulting in shorter days.
