CARICOM Intersessional summit underway
CARICOM leaders will open their two-day intersessional summit in Roseau, Dominica today with the state of regional economies high on the agenda for the first full working day of the meeting.
The issue is expected to dominate discussions with the President of the World Bank, Robert Zoellick, Inter American Development Bank (IADB) president, Luis Alberto Moreno, and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
The CARICOM Secretary General Edwin Carrington is hopeful that the talks will result in the identification of new and viable approaches to the treatment of economic matters.
The status of implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) is also among the main items on the agenda, as well as CARICOM’s continued support to Haiti following the January 12 earthquake.
Haiti\'s President Rene Preval, who met with United States President Barack Obama in Washington yesterday, is expected to join the talks tomorrow.
