Two-day Central Champs starts today
Jamaica’s junior representative Natoya Goule of Manchester High shattered two records on today’s opening day of the two-day Milo Central Champs at GC Foster College in Spanish Town.
Goule first set a new mark in the Girls’ Open three thousand metres. She won the race in 10 minutes 31.82 seconds, surpassing the previous mark of 10 minutes 32.10 second which was set by his schoolmate Meisha Morgan last year.
Goule returned later to win the Girls Class One 800-metre final in two minutes 12.01 seconds, breaking the previous record of two minutes 12.83 set by Holmwood’s Bobby-Gaye Wilkins in 2008.
There were two other records on the day.
Nikita Tracey of Edwin Allen won the Girls Open 400-metre hurdles final in 58.80 to break the previous mark of 58.90 held by Shana-Gaye Tracey of Manchester High in 2007.
Kemar Bailey-Cole of Old Harbour accounted for the Boys Class One 100-metre record. He clocked 10.52 to shatter 10.75 set by Glenmuir’s David Dunn in 2008.
Meanwhile Edwin Allen and St Jago are leading the early standings.
After three finals in the girls’ section, Edwin Allen are ahead on 25 points, three ahead of second place St Jago on 22, followed by Manchester High on 19 and defending champions Holmwood Technical and Vere Technical locked on 13.
Defending champions St Jago are out front in the boys’ section on 20 points, seven ahead of Holmwood Technical on 13.
