Guyana has refused Suriname\'s request to formalize an illegal passenger docking facility at the Corentyne River that borders the two countries.
Paramaribo says it’s putting in place port-health authority, customs and other facilities at the Nickerie end of the crossing, and it’s expected that Guyana will do the same at its end.
However the Home Affairs Minister in Georgetown, Clement Rohee, said the government\'s decision not to formalise the facility is in the country\'s best interest.
However Mr Rohee said the existing system will be strengthened in keeping with a security agreement between the two countries.
