Wayne Rooney scored twice as Manchester United beat Fulham 3-0 yesterday to move two points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Rooney, who saw a long-range strike saved in the opening 45 minutes, slotted home from 12 yards after just 30 seconds of the second half.

He added his second goal in the 84th minute and Dimitar Berbatov scored the final goal in the 89th minute.

With the victory, Manchester United moved to 66 points, to lead Chelsea and Arsenal on 64 each. However, Chelsea have a game in hand on both Manchester United and Arsenal.

In the day’s other game, Adam Johnson curled home a superb injury time equalizer to deny Sunderland victory as Manchester City escaped with a 1-1draw.
