A bipartisan parliamentary oversight committee has been set up in Guyana to monitor the country’s security sector.

The National Assembly yesterday approved a motion establishing the committee.

It’s charged with examining the policies, laws, performance and administration of the security forces.

Opposition MP Debra Backer of the Peoples National Congress has been making a case for opposition chairmanship of the committee.

However, the suggestion was rejected by government MP Anil Nandlall.
